چکیده

We study compressional pulsations in Pc5 frequency range observed in the dawn-side at distances of about 10 RE , close to the magnetic equator. We use data obtained during two events of conjunctions between Equator-S and Geotail: 1000–1700 UT on 9 March 1998, and 0200–0600 UT on 25 April 1998. In both events, pulsations are observed after substorm activity. The pulsations are antisymmetric with respect to the equatorial plane (even mode), and move eastward with phase velocity close to plasma velocity. The pulsations tend to be pressure balanced. We also discuss possible generation mechanisms of the pulsations.

Polar observations of transverse magnetic pulsations initiated at substorm onset in the high-latitude plasma sheet

[1] This paper presents simultaneous observations of 6-mHz magnetic pulsations in the nightside high-latitude plasma sheet, inner plasma sheet at the geosynchronous distance, and auroral region on the ground in association with substorm onset. We study an isolated substorm (AE 300 nT) onset on 19 October 1999 at 0145 UT. The Polar spacecraft was located in the plasma sheet near the plasma sheet...

Unusual strong quasi-monochromatic ground Pc5 geomagnetic pulsations in the recovery phase of November 2003 superstorm

Unusually large-amplitude morning Pc5 magnetic pulsations during the recovery phase of the huge magnetic storm in November 2003 have been studied by using ground-based multi-point observations. Two main spectral Pc5 enhancements were observed: at f≈2 mHz, which featured slowly increasing frequency with decreasing latitude, and at f≈3 mHz, which was latitude independent. The Pc5 pulsations were ...

Multipoint observations of a Pi2 pulsation on morningside: The 20 September 1995 event

[1] We investigated a Pi2 pulsation that occurred at 0538 UT on 20 September 1995, using data from ground stations and the ETS-VI and EXOS-D satellites. Since ground stations at L = 1.45 12.6 and the two satellites were located at 7–10 hours of magnetic local time (MLT), we could investigate characteristics of the morning side Pi2 pulsation in detail. We also examined geomagnetic field data fro...

Pc5 modulation of high energy electron precipitation: particle interaction regions and scattering efficiency

Using the NORSTAR riometer and CANOPUS magnetometer arrays we have investigated the modulation of high energy electron precipitation by ULF waves in the Pc5 frequency band. We conducted two separate studies of Pc5 activity in the riometers. The first is an independent survey of three riometer stations in the Churchill line (one at each subauroral, auroral, and typical polar cap boundary latitud...

Global observation of 24 November 2006 Pc5 pulsations by single mid-latitude underground [SQUID]2 system

On 24 November 2006, simultaneous observations of Pc5 pulsations, electron precipitation and whistlermode chorus, as well as solar wind and IMF parameters have been analyzed based on data from IMAGE magnetometers, riometer array and temporal VLF station. This paper focuses on the Pc5 pulsations detected at the same time, in the 1–25 millihertz range, by the [SQUID]2 system (SQUID magnetometer w...
